VOLGA of S.Nacucchi from Russian Side (Axis starting scenario)

Turn 1

I have started the Volga Scenario from Russian side!.

Of course i have decided to use some experimental settings and rules...that i want to try to improve the battle in this scenario when played from russian side.
At the end...i will see if it is good or not or i can recomend another most apropriate tunning in the settings

I have adopted the next settings +2 and +2 to the axis.
Also i have adopted that i can not purchase new russian units if i have less than 2000 prestige points.
it is to say if i have 2100 i can buy a unit of 100. But on the contrary i can use all the prestige to reinforce the units and preserve the ones i had at the beginning. So i want to buy new units i will need to store 2000 prestige points that i will not use in reinforcing units.....what is going to be very risky ....as it is really needed to reinforce the defensive units here and there. About reinforcements there are no limits using the prestige that we are provided with.
So only if things goes very very well........ i could think of buying some unit.
The unit upgrade will follow the same rule that purchases, only can be upgraded the units if you have more than 2000 prestige points

An additional question is that the first line of russian units are highly entrenched what makes that sometimes to move them to a better tactical position would be at some point not a clever decission specially as we have not the air control. So i only moved some units that i considered interesting to take some riskes.

I moved my air units under protecction in our zone but took down two enemy tactical bombers.... taking advantage that enemy AI use them carelessly.

The main effort of my first turn was to protect the river close to Spartakovka, trying to protect the north of Stalingrad and using the T-34 army concentation to move towards Rynok trying to get the enemy defenders surrounded by the north and south!



Or T-34 group at the south of Dubobva moves towards Rynok destroying a recon and a granadier infantry unit!

Close to the airfields of Gumrak i could destroy the two enemy fighters a Stuka and a BF110 with large spotting range!



Enemy prepare the attack at Baburkin at the west of Stalingrad....here we are in a very bad position ...just preparing to resist to the last of our men!



Idem at Karpovka! preparing ourselves to delay the enemy advance!

At Bebetovka we destroyed a Pioneer unit in a transport inside the city

Turn 2 Allied Side

This is a rainy day what protect our lorry transported units movements (of course we must remember it is an axis starting scenario....so the protection was only for what we did last turn.....but not for the following one!.)

Our tanks movins south take Jersovka at the north or Rynok. We also destroy a Panzer III unit.



Trying to stop enemy advances from Orlovka. We also destroy an lorry embarked enemy 105 artillery.



At Borodkin we are caught in an unexpected artillery defense



At Pitomkin an Stuka is spotting range of our transported units....if it doesnt rain next turn we can expect serious damage in our Engineer unit or 76 AT transported unit!



At Baburkin all the fortifications are demoslihed and the city await the final assault....it has been a bloody defense till the moment!



At Ielchi the enemy is pushing hard and we decide to retire the artillery as it became completly exposed to enemy armory units!



At Bebetovka we keep the enemy offensive under control!



In stalingrad we keep on increasing the strenght of our defenses and we move some units from the other side of the river....(to our surprise...they seems embarked in submarines a minor icon bug but we consider that it has not much effect in the scenario (we can think of it as night movement of troops crossing the river!)

The enemy main efforts in the north of Stalingrad (Spartakovka, Goroditsche, Pitomkin and Gumrak)
but they are also in progress in the west of Stalingrad and the cities of Baburkin and Marinovka have fallen.



Our defensive attack from north and south in Rinok still in progress with good results!

Turn 9 Axis side

At the North of Stalingrad there is a balanced situation. Our T_34 units and the lack of enemy tac bombers in the zone let us control the situation.



In Rynok the Axis keep the control of the city. Two enemy fighters keep the attack on our infantry units that try to occupy the city.



The enemy move quickly and after taken the objective of Baburkin now is close to take the objective of Bol-Rossoscha after heavy bombardements in the city (during three turns)



After Marinovka the enemy has launched an strong offensive over Karpovka!....we hoped to resist more time in this city.
The enemy air bombardement was also hard and weakened a lot our defensive positions. The AI did an intelligent movement catching our artillery unit in Karpovkajka (i am really impressed! jejeje....normally the AI is not very smart so it has been really a surprise :-)



In Bebetovka the front line is balanced and the blood run on the streets!

The enemy purchased 4 star units in Rynok ... thats makes too dificult to take over Rynok!



In Goreditsche and Gurmak increase the number of enemy units (purchased and arrived by land)



Desperate resistence at Karpovka ..that is close to fall



At last we launch an offensive in Bebetovka



As we reach more than 2000 prestige we could buy our first unit an 85mm 3 range AA that we placed close to the Central Station in Stalingrad city

Allied Turn 11

In Rynok we had luck and found the german paracaidist in a lorry in the airfield of Jersovka close to Rynok and we destroyed the unit!



The major battle in the north of Stalingrad is about to start!!



We bought an 85 mm AA in Pitomkin as we saw three Stukas trying to destroy the defensive position....as we had stored mora than 500 prestige points over the limit level 2000 we could buy it.



In Karpovka we fought by mistake the last shot of the AA. After that we tried to risk an attack from our guards unit trying to surrender an enemy infantry but we got a rugged and the objective is now defended by one point unit strength ...it is the end. The artilleries are now without AA cover and the most important unit was reduced to ashes (1 point) ......



In KarpovKajka we upgraded a tank toa KV2 as we had enough prestige! After this we strengten some weaken units close to the KV2 so that our prestige level came under 2000 by 15 points.



In Bebetovka we proceeded to follow with our offensive!

Axis Turn 12


Enemy prepare the attack on Karpokavja and it is cleaning the last units of the city of Karpovka



In Pitomkin we got some success in the defense against the three tactical bombers, but the enemy is crossing the river close to the mine fields....
in short we will get a massive attack on the objective. The defensive units at Pitomkin are very weakened after the air bombardement!



In the North of Stalingrad the enemy are moving towards the Mamai Hills and they are getting ready for launching an attack from the west!

In Karpovkajka a small defense is prepared to stop the troops moving eastwards towards Stalingrad!



In Pitomkin we are close to lose the last objective outside of Stalingrad!

In the South the Russian offensive moves quickly!



Between Gumrak, Pitomkin and Stalingradiskij takes place a large land battle. The aAxis transported units are crushed by two T-34 formation that converge over the enemy forces.

THE END!!

I liked the game..... there were losses in both sides and i could not control the air during the whole game....and i had to be cautious to not lose the russian fighters!.

Probably the only that i missed was a real fight in the Stalingrad city. In this case it was not necessary a street by street fight and also the two Russian offensives after the 12-13 turn were succesful!.


Probably if i would play this scenario again from the Russian side would do the test of changing some of the initial settings and conditions:

- next settings +2 and +2 to the axis.
- The russian can not purchase new russian units if he has less than 2500 prestige points.
it is to say if he has 2600 he can buy a unit of 100.
- a new one: Russian can not use all the prestige to reinforce the units (only can use the prestige over 2000) But if he want to buy new units he will need to store first 2500 prestige points .....what is going to be very risky ....as it is really needed to reinforce the defensive units here and there.
